sample_remark This sample of Badu Granite was collected at the Alice Queen Limited exploration camp on Horn Island, Torres Strait in June 2016 from exploration drillhole 16NGD011 (120.9-124.4 m), drilled by Alice Queen Limited in 2016 on behalf of its subsidiary company, Kauraru Gold Pty Ltd (Kauraru Gold Pty Ltd, 2016). This drillhole intersected gold mineralisation of the Pioneer Reef on the western side of the Horn Island open cut gold mine. The sampled Badu Granite is an altered pink, medium-grained, equigranular (holocrystalline), biotite I-type granite with sub-microscopic hematite-dusted K-feldspar (pink-orange, 0.5 to 3 mm), plagioclase (heavily altered to sericite, light green to olive, 0.5 to 2 mm), quartz (light grey to white, translucent to milky, 0.5 to 3 mm), biotite (dark green to black, chlorite-altered, 0.3 to 2 mm) and some altered hornblende (dark-green, 1 to 2 mm). Various dark-coloured (mafic, microdiorite) xenoliths (at 121.10 m) were observed and one larger xenolith was excluded from the processing of the geochronology sample. Major minerals are plagioclase (53%, mostly highly altered to sericite-illite), K-feldspar (around 22%, moderately altered), quartz (18%, clear to translucent), biotite (<5%, altered to chlorite) and some hornblende (~2%, completely altered to carbonate minerals), together with some minor accessory minerals comprising apatite, zircon and some opaques.
