sample_remark This sample was collected at the Alice Queen exploration camp on Horn Island, Torres Strait, in June 2016 from exploration drillhole 16NGD010 (40.0-43.7 m), drilled by Alice Queen Limited in 2016 on behalf of its subsidiary company, Kauraru Gold Pty Ltd (Kauraru Gold Pty Ltd, 2016). It was drilled into rocks north of the Pioneer Reef on the western margin of the Horn Island open cut gold mine. The rhyolite dyke sampled is recognised as one of the major post-mineralisation dykes within the Horn Island mine area (von Gnielinski, 1996), intrudes all phases of the Badu and Horn Island intrusive rocks, and cuts the gold-sulphide-quartz veins. The sampled rhyolite is a cream to light brown porphyritic rock with phenocrysts of quartz (3-5%, 1-4 mm, clear to translucent, angular to sub angular grain-shape), weakly, illite-sericitised plagioclase (~10-15%, 1-3 mm, light pink), sericite-carbonate-altered K-feldspar (~10%, 1-4 mm, rarely up to 6 mm, light orange, angular euhedral laths), and heavily chloritised biotite (1-2%, 1-2 mm, greenish-black). The alteration is a weak to moderate phyllic-style alteration which notably lacks associated sulphides.
