sample_remark This sample was taken from a band of fine- to medium-grained quartzite approximately 8 m thick, structurally interleaved within the Minbrie Gneiss. The quartzite contains a gneissic fabric steeply dipping to the ESE parallel to both the fabric in the Minbrie Gneiss and the contacts between the quartzite and Minbrie Gneiss. On the western edge of the quartzite band is a clinopyroxene-plagioclase-quartz calc-silicate band approximately 15 m thick, presumably part of the same sedimentary sequence. Like the quartzite the calc-silicate has a gneissic fabric steeply dipping to the ESE. The quartzite is dominantly composed of quartz, with minor feldspar (~5%) and biotite (~5%). The quartz is recrystallised, with grains up to 600 µm in diameter, often elongate parallel to the fabric, with shadowy extinction. Grains of perthitic potassium feldspar and potassium feldspar with cross-hatch twinning are up to 600 micron in diameter and plagioclase grains up to ~300 micron in diameter. Biotite grains are 100-300 micron in diameter, and define the fabric in the quartzite. Some biotite grains have developed a pronounced asymmetry.
