sample_remark Sample 2014268 is a feldspar-quartz -biotite migmatitic gneiss presumed to be derived from an igneous precursor. It contains a fabric steeply dipping to the east which is folded by tight upright folds. Leucocratic melt occurs as bands and pods which are folded together with the gneissic foliation. This migmatitic gneiss is composed of potassium feldspar, plagioclase, quartz, and biotite, with trace zircon and secondary sericite. Feldspars include potassium feldspar with tartan twinning, perthitic feldspar and multiply twinned plagioclase, and are weakly sericitised. The feldspars are commonly 2-3 cm, but up to 5 cm in diameter, and are predominantly augen-shaped, with their long axis aligned with the gneissic fabric. Quartz predominantly occurs as quartz ribbons defining the gneissic fabric and wrapping around feldspar crystals. Biotite crystals are up to 1 cm in diameter, mostly interstitial to feldspar and quartz, and also define the gneissic fabric.
