sample_remark This gneissic granite, here referred to informally as the Tip Top Granite, is one of a number of undifferentiated granitoids assigned to the 'Lincoln Complex' which is exposed on Roopena Station, ~40 km W of Port Augusta, on northern Eyre Peninsula. The Tip Top Granite is observed both to intrude and be interleaved with the Broadview Schist. The fabric in the Tip Top Granite dips steeply to the NE and SW, identical in orientation to that in the adjacent Broadview Schist, and is interpreted to have formed during the Kimban Orogeny. The Tip Top Granite is an orange to pink medium-grained to very coarse-grained pegmatitic granite composed of quartz-potassium feldspar- plagioclase - muscovite +/- tourmaline +/- garnet. Unlike many of the other granitoids on the NE Eyre Peninsula, which are generally mica poor and undeformed to weakly foliated, this granite is rich in muscovite and has a strong gneissic fabric. Sample 2017715 is a medium-grained equigranular potassium feldspar-quartz-biotite-muscovite granite with a moderate gneissic fabric. It is composed of potassium feldspar, quartz, biotite and muscovite with trace zircon and secondary sericite, and contains a moderate gneissic fabric. Potassium feldspar crystals are up to 15 mm in diameter, with their long axis aligned with the gneissic fabric, and are weakly to moderately seriticitised. They are commonly perthitic, containing inclusions of quartz and micas. Quartz occurs as elongate ribbons with shadowy extinction, defining the gneissic fabric and commonly wrapping around potassium feldspar crystals. Biotite and muscovite are typically 50-100 micron in diameter, and are intergrown with smaller feldspar crystals.
