sample_remark This sample is a white weakly foliated quartz-feldspar-muscovite granite. The granite intrudes the Minbrie Gneiss as a fabric-parallel linear body in excess of 20 m thick. The granite contains a raft of the host rock approximately 3 m thick composed of quartz-feldspar-biotite migmatitic gneiss orientated parallel to the local fabric. Adjacent to this raft of host rock the granite is intruded by a network of quartz-feldspar-cordierite leucocratic melt parallel to the fabric in the granite. The composition of the white weakly foliated quartz-feldspar-muscovite granite is dominated by feldspar and quartz, with only minor muscovite content (3-5%), and has an equigranular intergrown texture, with the weak fabric observed in the field not readily evident in thin section. Subhedral to anhedral potassium feldspar crystals, often with tartan twinning, are typically 10-20 mm in diameter, and contain quartz and muscovite. Quartz is intergrown with feldspar, and is up to 30 mm in diameter, with shadowy extinction. Muscovite occurs interstitial to feldspar and quartz.
