sample_remark The Sequoia Prospect is a magnetite iron ore prospect located in the central-eastern Christie Domain. Drilling by the South Australian Department of Mines and Energy in 1997 defined an inferred resource of 22 Mt grading 28.4% Fe, comprising several steeply dipping, laterally discontinuous 2–50 m wide layers of quartz-actinolite-magnetite, actinolite-magnetite, and biotite-quartz-magnetite gneiss (Davies, 2000). The magnetite gneiss is structurally concordant with a banded quartz-magnetite-diopside-hypersthene-amphibole gneiss with-interlayered quartz–microcline–plagioclase gneiss and plagioclase-rich granitoid. This sample is dominated by K-feldspar, which is weakly sericitised and intergrown with plagioclase in a perthitic texture. Minor biotite is light brown. The texture of the rock is granoblastic, however, there is a weak foliation defined by the alignment of recrystallised quartz grains and the minor biotite crystal aggregates. The rock is extensively recrystallised and variably sericite altered.
