sample_remark Drillhole PYD005 lies in the south eastern Yorke Peninsula and intersected felsic rocks, with a well-defined foliation defined by the alignment of K-feldspar phenocrysts and is likely an altered felsic volcanic rock. This sample is of the felsic rock from this drillhole sampled in order to place a constraint on the age of the basement in this region of the Yorke Peninsula. In thin section, the sample is a granoblastic textured, medium to fine grained quartzo-feldspathic gneiss. The sample has granoblastic texture, comprising dynamically recrystallised quartz intergrown with K-feldspar (microcline) and lesser plagioclase. Biotite is typically light brown to green, although it is not abundant in the sample and is commonly replaced by chlorite. The sample contains pyrite, with occasional inclusions of chalcopyrite. Titanite occurs within the sample as brown, subhedral to anhedral blocky crystals and typically clustering in small, elongate groups parallel to the overall foliation in the rock. The titanite is intergrown with pyrite and biotite in places.
