sample_remark Sample R2023012 (depth 57.2-57.5 m) is more siliceous metasediment than sample R2023011 (depth 54.1-54.3 m) within the same iron formation. Both samples are from close intervals of the same drillhole, and their SHRIMP zircon results have been combined for the purpose of interpretation. It is a finely laminated hematite-dominated iron formation. Layering is defined by greater or lesser abundances of hematite, which occurs as small, <50-micron angular crystals. Hematite replaces magnetite as in many instances, with cores of hematite grains composed of magnetite. Hematite also occurs in the matrix as red masses, intergrown with the very fine grained quartz-dominated matrix. Minor chlorite occurs along small fractures. Some small, <100-micron zircons are observed within the quartz-rich matrix.
