| sample_remark | GSQ Quilpie 1 was drilled by the Geological Survey of Queensland in 1983. The drill hole penetrated the Eromanga Basin and underlying Thomson Orogen to a total depth of 1214.19 metres where it bottomed out in metamorphic basement. The sample selected for geochronology was collected from the depth interval of 1203.3 to 1205.5 metres and is a grey, fine-grained, chloritic metasiltstone. It contains sparse, thin (to 2 mm) quartz veins some of which contain pyrite. Disseminated euhedral pyrite crystals up to 4 mm in size are also present. SHRIMP analyses of detrital zircons from this sample will provide an indication of the maximum depositional age of this unit, and a zircon provenance age spectrum. It will also provide age constraints to aid interpretation of the seismic line BMR84-14, and provide regional context for comparison with regional sedimentary rocks in the Thomson Orogen and the Lachlan Orogen. |
