sample_remark | AOP Scalby 1 was drilled in 1966 by American Overseas Petroleum in the area between the Nebine Ridge and Roma Shelf. Basement below the Surat Basin was intersected from 810-866 metres. Sample 2130082/TH679 was taken from 860 metres below the surface Nebine Ridge, which is thought to be a subsurface extension of the Anakie Inlier (Hamilton, 1966). Sample 2130082/TH679 consists of massive, microperthitic, biotite-muscovite granite. The rock is coarse-grained and dominated by unstrained quartz up to one centimetre in diameter. Quartz is intergrown with euhedral K-feldspar and lesser plagioclase. Euhedral K-feldspar is prominent and commonly microperthitic with fine laminations of intergrown albite. Plagioclase is commonly zoned, with the cores often replaced by sericite, calcite and brown clay. Biotite, muscovite and tourmaline form interstitial phases. Biotite and tourmaline have been moderately replaced by chlorite. |
