sample_remark | DIO NARYILCO 1 was drilled by Delhi Petroleum Pty Ltd in 1963. It was drilled to a depth of 1477.4 m and recovered basement core from 1389.5 m (Brown et al., 2012). It is located approximately 25 km northwest of Naryilco in southwestern Queensland. The sample analysed is a grey fine- to medium-grained quartzite. Murray (1994) describes the unit sampled as a poorly sorted quartzose sandstone with an average grain size of about 0.1 mm. The dominant clastic components are quartz (up to 1 mm and comprising 40% of the rock), feldspar (mostly plagioclase and comprising ~20% of the rock) as well as 10% metasedimentary lithics, ~5% calcite, minor muscovite flakes and accessory apatite, tourmaline and zircon. Brown et al. (2012) assigned this unit to the Thomson Orogen, which at this location is overlain by sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic to Cretaceous Eromanga Basin. This sample was analysed to obtain provenance age information and a maximum age of deposition. |
