sample_remark Welded ignimbrite sampled on the eastern side of Turtle Rock. Existing mapping of the volcanic rocks surrounding the main plug at Turtle Rock indicates a broad apron of trachyte; however, field reconnaissance identified some trachyte on the W side but also abundant rhyolitic ignimbrites and polymictic conglomerates on the E side. This suggests the package is more complex than originally thought, and may represent intermingled (and potentially unrelated) volcanic facies. The rhyolitic sample submitted for analysis is very fresh and contains abundant crystals and lithic fragments. Along with NSWSBPS0080.01B, these two reconnaissance ages should provide an idea of what is going on at Turtle Rock and what further work (if any) is required.
