sample_remark Cairns 1997 paraphrased: The first variant in the Wondalga Granodiorite is described as the phase 1 intrusive body. It is dominantly light grey fine to medium grained monzogranite. This phase is found towards the centre of the pluton and is surrounded by granites of phase 2. This phase is dominantly equigranular although a fine grained graphically intergrown matrix is often apparent. K-feldspar (30%) is the dominant feldspar, generally found as late crystallising perthite, microcline and mild alteration to sericite. The dominant ferro-magnesian component is biotite (1-10%), although the modal proportion of this is highly variable and in places would seem to dependant on the extent of metasomatism that has taken place. Quartz (42%) is anhedral and up to three millimeters in diameter, undulose extinction and sutured grain boundaries were evident. Plagioclase (25%) is anhedral to subhedral and shows both regular zonation and albite twinning with mild to moderate alteration to sericite and epidote is found throughout most of this phase.
