sample_remark Fanning & Webb (1990): Sample 6932RS296 is an extensively recrystallised porphyritic acid volcanic rock consisting of fine-grained granular aggregates of quartz and feldspar, with coarser phenocrysts of quartz, in places embayed, and altered plagioclase. There are abundant fine-grained opaques which appear to be preferentially concentrated into wispy bands or stringers, in places wrapping around the relict phenocrysts and presumably reflecting the primary igneous flow banding of this meta-volcanic rock. Biotite is also prominent, occurring as fine grains in discontinuous stringers mimicking the flow banding and as medium grains in clots or aggregates. Zircon is a prominent accessory phase: the grains are generally euhedral and elongate though some are more equant and blocky. This is a meta-dacite that shows the pervasive effects of a metamorphic overprint, though in general it is less deformed than sample 7032RS86. This second sample (6932RS296) of the Boucaut Volcanics also does not contain the prominent, late secondary veining common to sample 7032RS86. The zircons from sample 6932RS296 are essentially identical to those separated from the first sampling of the Boucaut Volcanics (sample 7032RS86) i.e. they are honey to pale honey in colour, and predominantly euhedral or fractured euhedral crystals.
