sample_remark | This sample was taken from 241.0-241.12 m depth in diamond drillhole HRUD600 at Kershaws prospect, less than 1 km E of the Hera orebody, which is the target of a polymetallic (gold-lead-zinc-silver) underground mine about 100 km SE of Cobar. The sample is a weakly mineralised garnet-epidote-anorthite rich skarn vein, which also hosts fibrous amphibole, and relatively coarse-grained (up to 1 mm) titanite intimately intergrown with skarn epidote. Skarn veins at Kershaws prospect predate the main phase of mineralisation, and are deformed within a biotite-rich foliation. At Hera, Fitzherbert et al. (2021) dated a similar foliation (interpreted to have formed the same event) at 390.03 +/- 0.23 Ma and 389.60 +/- 0.23 Ma via biotite 40Ar/39Ar analysis. At the nearby Hera orebody, titanite intimately intergrown with the mineralising Au-skarn yielded U-Pb dates of 403.4 +/- 1.1 Ma (via ID-TIMS; Fitzherbert et al., 2021) and 404.2 +/- 5.1 Ma (via SHRIMP; Waltenberg et al., 2019), and titanite cross-cutting the mineralising skarn yielded an indistinguishable U–Pb date of 402.3 +/- 3.6 Ma (via LA-ICPMS, Fitzherbert et al., 2021). However, titanite from late-stage veins at Hera yielded U–Pb dates of 384.8 +/- 1.1 Ma (via ID-TIMS; Fitzherbert et al., 2021) and 382.5 +/- 3.1 Ma (via SHRIMP; Waltenberg et al., 2019). Dating titanite in this garnet-bearing skarn vein will constrain the age of skarn formation and impose a maximum age on mineralisation at Kershaws prospect, thereby providing insights into its relationship with the main Hera orebody. In thin section, this skarn vein is dominated by intergrown garnet, epidote and anorthite, and is weakly mineralised. Minor vein-hosted phases include fibrous amphibole and relatively coarse-grained (up to 1 mm) titanite, which is intimately intergrown with skarn epidote. Skarn veins at Kershaws prospect predate the main phase of mineralisation, and are deformed within a biotite-rich foliation. |
