| sample_remark | Sample 2704878 is a fine- to medium-grained mafic amphibolite taken from the downhole interval 123.9–124.8 m in drillhole 17GRDD001. The mafic amphibolite is interpreted to intrude metasandstone of the Lander Rock Formation. The mafic amphibolite was selected for geochronology to determine its crystallisation age as it is spatially associated with mineralisation at the prospect. This area comprises mafic amphibolites of the Du Faur Suite, and rocks interpreted to be from the Andrew Young Igneous Complex. The mafic amphibolite sampled may represent part of the Du Faur Suite based on the low-K tholeiitic geochemical signature of the sample, which is consistent with the Du Faur Suite (Scrimgeour 2013). In thin section, the mafic amphibolite contains 40 –50 vol% amphibole, 30–40 vol% plagioclase, and 10 –20 vol% biotite, with feldspar-rich leucocratic patches/veins. The amphibole is commonly stubby to acicular, with lengths of 100–3000 μm and widths of 20–500 μm. The feldspar is anhedral with grain size in the range 50–1000 μm. Flaky biotite appears to replace the amphibole, with grain lengths of 20–200 μm and widths of 5–50 μm. Minor to trace minerals include oxide minerals, carbonate minerals and zircon. |
