sample_remark The sample is a medium-grained porphyroblastic cordierite-bearing pelitic schist interlayered with narrow layers of fine-grained metapsammite. This lithology is interpreted as belonging to the Bonya Schist. SHRIMP dating of a metapsammite (of possible volcaniclastic origin) from the Bonya Schist, northeast of Jervois Mine, yielded a maximum deposition age of 1807 ± 17 Ma, and an isotopic resetting age of ca 478 Ma (Claoue-Long and Hoatson 2005). However, the relationship between that sample and outcrops of Bonya Schist in the Bonya Hills to the west are not clear and therefore it seems prudent to date a sample from an area where the unit is better defined. The sample was collected from a site which will likely be the type section for the Bonya Schist (to be renamed Bonya Metamorphics) on the Jervois Range mapsheet.
