| sample_remark | Jagodzinski & Reid 2015 (RB2015/00003): This sample is a felsic gneiss within drillhole DD12COP007. It comprises quartz-plagioclase-orthopyroxene-biotite gneiss that shows a granoblastic texture with abundant subgrain recrystallisation and lobate grain boundaries indicative of high temperature metamorphism. The gneissic foliation is defined by the alignment of orthopyroxene crystals into layers within the overall quartz-plagioclase granoblastic matrix. The orthopyroxene contains fine inclusions of biotite. In places, the orthopyroxene is fractured and in part retrogressed to biotite (±sericite?). The sample is submitted to provide a limit on the timing of intrusion and metamorphism of this rock. SARIG rock database: Strat Unit = Birksgate Complex. Gneiss, quartzofeldspathic; orthogneiss, felsic to ultramafic; paragneiss, pelitic to calcic: iron formation. Granulite to amphibolite facies. |
