sample_remark The Galambo Granite forms a distinctive, roughly triangular-shaped magnetic feature approximately 30 x 20 km in size, situated on the southern margin of the Louth-Eumarra Shear Zone (Burton et al., 2012) in the northern part of the Central Lachlan Orogen. The dated sample was collected from rocks chips from a depth of ~66 metres at the base of RAB hole CAC 5.5 stored at the W. B. Clarke Geoscience Centre, Geological Survey of New South Wales, Londonderry, NSW. The sample consists of highly weathered, white, kaolinitic rock chips, containing relict quartz and biotite grains. Only a small volume of these weathered rock chips was available for sampling, and the limited sample volume and weathered nature of the sample was not ideal for U-Pb zircon geochronology; however, no other sample of the Galambo Granite was available. Geochronology was conducted on this sample with the aim of establishing a magmatic crystallisation age for the Galambo Granite, for comparison with other local and regional granites.
