sample_remark | IOL BRAIDWOOD 1 was drilled to a depth of 2365.5 m by International Oil Proprietary in 1985. It is located in central western Queensland approximately 17 km northwest of Jundah, 500 m west of the Winton-Jundah Road and approximately 8 km northwest of its junction with the Thomson Development Road. The sample submitted for SHRIMP U-Pb analysis is a red, fine-grained calcareous sandstone. It is moderately sorted, silicified and contains subangular to subrounded lithic fragments that are occasionally mottled very pale grey green (Brown et al., 2012). It was classified as a Thomson Orogen unit by Brown et al. (2012) and is located in the northern part of the Devonian Warrabin Trough that in this area is concealed below sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic to Cretaceous Eromanga Basin. SHRIMP U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology was undertaken on this sample to obtain provenance age information and a maximum age of deposition in order to better understand its stratigraphic context. |
