sample_remark At the Rover 12 prospect, multiple layers of quartz-feldspar-chlorite rock occur within a sequence of metasedimentary quartz-chlorite schist and chert. In drill core the quartzofeldspathic rock is interlayered on the centimetre-scale with metasedimentary schist, occasionally showing irregular contacts with the schist and containing angular clasts of metasedimentary rock to ca. 9 cm in length. Both the schist and quartzofeldspathic rock contain a strong foliation that is sub-parallel to layering in the sampled drill core. In thin section the quartzofeldspathic rock shows numerous irregular 1-2 mm grains of quartz and feldspar set in a foliated chlorite-quartz matrix. The irregular grain shapes and the fine-scale interlayering with metasedimentary schist suggest that the quartzofeldspathic layers are immature, weakly metamorphosed volcaniclastic rocks. If the rock is indeed volcaniclastic in origin, the large angular metasedimentary fragments might represent rip-up clasts rather than magmatic xenoliths.
