| sample_remark | Felsic porphyry was sampled in the area of the abandoned Peko Mines smelter, 35 km NW of Tennant Creek. The porphyry in this area forms a semi-conformable layer within poorly sorted sandstone assigned to the Warramunga Formation (Donnellan et al., 1995). The upper contact of the porphyry is highly irregular, with the porphyry containing wisps and rounded inclusions of sandstone, and the sandstone containing euhedral crystals, lobes and blebs of porphyry. These contacts are interpreted to reflect intrusion of a porphyry sill into wet, unconsolidated sediments, and thus the age of this intrusion approximates the timing of sedimentation. A sample of porphyry was taken from drill core, with care taken to exclude inclusions of sedimentary material. |
