sample_remark The siltstone is massive with no obvious partings such as bedding, laminations, or foliation and is cut by scattered fractures some of which are lined with an unidentified white mineral, possibly hydrated magnesium sulphate. Noteworthy features of the siltstone are its massive, essentially unmetamorphosed character and dark grey-black colour likely due to relatively abundant carbonaceous grains The siltstone is poorly sorted and made up mainly of angular-subangular monocrystalline quartz grains with low sphericity set in an abundant (>10%), finer grained, clay-rich matrix. Sparse detrital muscovite grains and angular to subangular, very fine-grained mudstone(?) and carbonaceous fragments, as well as rare well-rounded grains of tourmaline, and relatively coarse, euhedral zircon were also identified in the thin section examined.
