| sample_remark | Elburg et al. (2003): Samples from the primary uranium mineralisation (comprising sample JOEL1, which is monazite-(Ce), and sample SMP1, which is an euxenite group mineral) were derived from the Number 2 workings, NW of Mt Gee. The euxenite group mineral (represented by SMP1), with simplified chemical formula (U,Fe,Y)NbO4, is metamict and highly inhomogeneous. The present-day compositions vary from U-dominant (ishikawaite) to Fe-dominant (unnamed end member). Coarse-grained monazite-(Ce), represented by JOEL1, is an abundant primary mineral in the hematite breccia at the Number 2 workings, in places constituting several volume percent of the ore. An early wet-chemical age determination of the primary uranium mineralisation yielded 410 +/- 50 Ma (Kleeman, 1946). |
