| sample_remark | Thomas & Pogson 2012 paraphrased: "The Quialigo Volcanics occurs in the western belt of the Bindook Group. The Newacres Ignimbrite Member, a constituent unit of the Quialigo Volcanics, comprises poorly stratified siliceous welded ignimbrites that fall into two compositionally distinct groups (Simpson 2006a): a crystal-rich group and a less crystal-rich group. The crystal-rich ignimbrites have 35-50% whole and fragmented phenocrysts up to 6 mm in diameter comprising plagioclase (15-25%), quartz (10-15%), and K-feldspar (up to 7%), with minor biotite, and trace hornblende, black opaque minerals, zircon, apatite, and possibly some replaced pyroxene. The matrix is cryptocrystalline to finely microcrystalline with plastically deformed welded shards. The less crystal-rich ignimbrites have 15-20% whole and fragmented phenocrysts up to 6 mm comprising plagioclase (up to 8%), quartz (up to 10%), K-feldspar (up to 5%), and biotite (<1%). Accessory amounts of black opaque minerals, zircon, tourmaline, are present, and a single garnet grain was found in one sample. The matrix is cryptocrystalline to barely microcrystalline with a pronounced eutaxitic foliation." They are mostly euhedral with well-developed prismatic and pyramidal terminations, with an average length to width ratio of 2:1.
