sample_remark | Johnson et al 2016 paraphrased: "Samples KB07 and KB08 are from the Kara Formation that consists of finely laminated siltstone and sandstone with minor chert and limestone (Mills, 1992). U-Pb dating of zircon taken from a horizon of alkali rhyolite that is conformable with bedding in the Kara Formation. The sample was collected from just below the contact with the overlying Nundora Formation of the Teltawongee Group. Bedding in formations is parallel, and the contact is considered to be structurally concordant. Texturally, the samples are angular to sub-rounded quartz that lies in a fine-grained matrix of quartz and white mica. The samples contain very little lithic material or feldspar and plot within the craton interior field of the tectonic discrimination plot. Grains of detrital zircon extracted from the samples are generally fragmented, variably rounded and have oscillatory zoning." |
