sample_remark | Johnson et al 2016 paraphrased: "The sample is from the Morden Formation of the Kayrunnera Group, which represents the stratigraphically lowest exposed unit of the Kayrunnera Basin. Grains of subangular quartz and feldspar that are embedded in calcite cement comprise the majority of the sample; matrix material is largely absent. The angular nature of the framework grains indicates that the sediments were not extensively reworked, and are probably not far traveled. The dominance of quartz and the minor fractions of feldspar in samples KB22a, KB21 and KB23 from the Kayrunnera Group indicate that the contributing sediments were probably derived from a cratonic source. Grains of detrital zircon extracted from the sample are well rounded and have low aspect ratios. Oscillatory zoning and complex heterogeneous textures are pronounced in the majority of grains." |
