sample_remark The sample was collected from near the base of the Mount Birch Sandstone type section, which is located about 1 km south of Nagi Hill in southern Urapunga. The Mount Birch Sandstone is about 80 m thick in the type section. The sample site is located towards the top of a steep scarp slope on the eastern side of a thickly wooded rocky ridge. Exposures consist of extensive benches and abundant blocky rubble of medium- to thickly bedded, trough cross-bedded, medium- to coarse-grained, cream to light brown sandstone. It outcrops a few metres above a 5 m-thick basal conglomerate. The sample is of a slightly weathered, mature, medium-grained sandstone, consisting of about 90% sub-angular to well-rounded quartz, about 10% chert grains and accessory zircon in a siliceous authigenic overgrowth cement.
