| sample_remark | A sample of core was collected from DDH 83/1 drilled in Queensland (Dorrins et al., 1983), over a 32 cm depth interval from 442.68 to 443.00 m. The sample was collected from what is interpreted as the Paleoproterozoic Riversleigh Siltstone of the McNamara Group (Dorrins et al., 1983; Krassay et al., 1999). The sample was obtained from an interval of pyritic black shale. The Riversleigh Siltstone comprises siltstone, shale, sandstone, dolomitic and carbonaceous siltstone (Sweet and Hutton, 1980; Grimes et al., 1987; Page et al., 2000). It conformably overlies the Shady Bore Quartzite and is in turn, overlain by the Termite Range Formation (Sweet and Hutton, 1980). The upper contact with the Termite Range Formation is reported to be erosional (e.g. Page et al., 2000). DDH 83/1 was drilled close to and on the western side of the Termite Range Fault. Zircon U-Pb geochronology of tuff and tuffaceous intervals in the Riversleigh Siltstone provide robust depositional age constraints on the unit between ca 1647-1644 Ma from drillhole and outcrop samples (Page et al., 2000). No zircon U-Pb age data has been obtained on DDH 83/1. The Riversleigh Siltstone is an important source rock in the Isa Superbasin (Jarrett et al., 2018), and is a primary target for unconventional gas resources (Gorton and Troup, 2018). TOC is ~4.5-5.4 wt% within 1-2 m of the sampled depth (Jarrett et al., 2018). The drillhole is also located within 20 km of the stratabound Century and Kamarga Pb-Zn-Ag deposits. The sample was targeted to test if Re-Os isotopes record a depositional age, or potentially post-depositional processes, such as fluid event(s) associated with petroleum or mineral systems in the region. The sample was divided into 7 sub-samples prior to analysis. |
