sample_remark The unit sampled is biotite-rich medium-grained granodiorite, at depth 548.64-548.94 m in drilhole PPC Beantree 1. Green et al. (1963; https://geoscience.data.qld.gov.au/report/cr001065) described this interval as pink and grey mottled, altered medium-grained monzogranite. It essentially comprises microperthite, oligoclase and quartz, with minor constituents secondary after hornblende and biotite. Quartz veins are common. In thin section, the rock comprises about 30% lath-shaped plagioclase crystals 2-3 mm, which were originally subhedral and are now markedly embayed and/or overgrown by alkali feldspar as enveloping anhedra up to 5 mm. Distributed at random are "patches" of fine-grained (0.05-0.2 mm) interlocking quartz anhedra which partly replace the earlier crystallised feldspar. About 10% pseudomorphs of mafic crystals by secondary minerals are distributed at random. Microperthite anhedra (~35%) partly envelop and replace plagioclase, and are partly replaced by quartz. It hosts inclusions of apatite and clinozoisite, and is altered to sericite, chlorite and epidote. Oligoclase anhedra (~30%) form corroded and/or overgrown lath-shaped grains. In general, they are altered to chlorite, epidote, clinzoisite and minor titanite. Recrystallised quartz makes up 20-25% of the rock. Mafic minerals make up 10-15% of the rock, and are replaced or pseudomorphed by secondary chlorite, epidote, clinozoisite and titanite in varying proportions. The primary minerals were probably hornblende and biotite. The texture and alteration of this granitic rock is attributed to late-stage hydrothermal activity. This unit was targeted for SHRIMP analysis in order to determine the affinity of felsic plutonism undercover to the south of the exposed Mount Isa Province.
