| sample_remark | Drill-hole Yarrallee 1 penetrated the Eromanga Basin and underlying Thomson metamorphic basement to a total depth of 687.32 metres (Planet Exploration Pty Ltd, 1970). The Yarrallee 1 drill-hole intersects the Gumbalara zone, a very large area of low and relatively bland magnetic response essentially paralleling the southern margin of the Thomson Orogen. The sample selected for geochronology was collected from the depth interval of 684.3 to 687.2 metres and is a grey to green, finely-bedded, very fine-grained pelitic siltstone, showing soft sediment and (polyphase) tectonic folding. Quartz veining is present and sulfide mineralisation occurs in some fractures and bedding planes. SHRIMP analysis of this sample will provide an indication of the maximum depositional age of this unit, and a zircon provenance age spectrum, for comparison with other regional metasedimentary rocks. |
