| sample_remark | The sample analysed here was collected from depth interval of 589.8-590.0 metres (Moreton Plains drillhole) and consists of weathered, pale green, fine-grained quartz rich siltstone. In thin section the sample consists predominantly of quartz with subordinate white mica and chlorite, and accessory opaque minerals, tourmaline and zircon. The sample exhibits a weak cleavage, axial planar to small fold hinges defined by clay and opaque minerals, and appears to have experienced lower metamorphic grade than the schists intersected in GSQ Eulo 1, approximately 130 km to the NW of the Moreton Plains drillhole. Geochronology was conducted to produce a detrital zircon age spectrum for this siltstone for comparison with other samples from the Nebine Metamorphics and with other metasedimentary samples of the southern Thomson Orogen and northern Lachlan Orogen. |
