sample_remark The sample was collected from drillhole GSQ Georgetown 4, by Ian Withnall (GSQ), and comprises material from two depth intervals (153.39-158.13 m and 160.20-161.64 m) which were combined prior to processing for zircon. The sample is a volcanic rock within the Candlow Formation, Etheridge Province of the Georgetown Inlier. The Candlow Formation lies stratigraphically above the Lane Creek Formation and is therefore potentially younger than the ca. 1655 Ma leucogabbro sill in that unit (Withnall et al., 1988; Black et al., 1998; Baker et al., 2010). Black and McCulloch (1984) completed Sm-Nd analysis on the volcanic rock within the Candlow Formation which indicates a juvenile magmatic input. This juvenile magmatic input was dismissed by Black and McCulloch (1984) as alteration effects. However more detailed isotopic work by Lambeck (2011) and Lambeck et al. (2012) suggests the juvenile input is part of a larger juvenile volcanic suite that is represented throughout Proterozoic Australia. The volcanic unit was interpreted by A. Lambeck and I.Withnall to have basal peperitic textures. Dating the volcanic rock was thought to be able to provide direct timing of felsic magmatism and sedimentation in the Georgetown Inlier.
