        "sample_remark":"This sample of cordierite-biotite granite was taken from diamond drillhole DD12NV0016 (336.4-338.1 m). It has S-type chemistry, and hosts many dark-coloured microgranular hornfelsed metasedimentary xenoliths. This granite intrudes brecciated and sheared siltstones of the earliest Devonian Shume Formation, in the Amphitheatre Group of the Cobar Supergroup (MacRae, 1987). Primary skarn mineralisation is of calcic iron\u2013copper type, and although it is best characterised in a drillhole several kilometres NW of DD12NV0016, the skarn chemistry is consistent with a causative pluton of I-type composition at depth (Fitzherbert et al., 2017), similar to the quartz diorite sampled at 159.75-162.0 m in this drillhole. This S-type cordierite-biotite granite, and a coarse-grained S-type granite deeper in DD12NV0016 (445.05-445.75 m), are not genetically related to skarn mineralisation: instead, they generated localised biotite-cordierite hornfels and tourmalinisation of their host siltstones, and local scheelite-bearing veins (Fitzherbert et al., 2017). In thin section, this rock is coarse-grained (5-6 mm) and weakly porphyritic, with plagioclase, K-feldspar and cordierite phenocrysts set in a finer-grained (0.5-1 mm) matrix rich in quartz, biotite and plagioclase. Hornfelsed metasedimentary xenoliths are common. Subhedral plagioclase (An30) phenocrysts often have narrow albitic rims and weak sericitic alteration. K-feldspar forms large, commonly poikilitic phenocrysts interlocking with, and interstitial to, the plagioclase-quartz-biotite matrix. Cordierite forms rounded to roughly hexagonal phenocrysts pervasively replaced by sericite. Fresh cordierite is rare. Biotite displays \"foxy red\" pleochroism and is mostly found within the matrix, but also forms coarser-grained laths. Partial to complete chlorite replacement of biotite is common. Quartz is interstitial, but also forms oval-shaped phenocrysts. Accessory phases include apatite, zircon and opaque oxide minerals.",
